Bulgaria: History & Architecture
Take an 11-day journey through Bulgaria, starting with Sofia's amazing blend of Roman, Ottoman & modern influences. You'll traverse ancient monasteries like Rila and explore architectural marvels in Plovdiv and Nessebar. Then you'll delve into Thracian heritage in Varna & marvel at the medieval wonders of Ruse & Veliko Tarnovo.
Cuba: Art & Architecture
A melting pot of African, European & Caribbean influences, this island nation’s culture is absolutely vibrant. Students will enjoy the unique mix of historic architecture & modern art.
The students will talk with a local architect about urban planning & how to integrate contemporary architecture with existing Colonial, Baroque & Neo-classical styles. The group will also visit local art projects to learn how Cubans work together to revitalize their communities through large-scale reclamation projects.
England: English Literary Legends
England's history is replete with writers whose talent has created incredibly influential literature. Follow the footsteps of visionaries from Shakespeare to the Bronte sisters. Make sure to read through the optional add ons for trips to Stonehenge, Chaucer's Canterbury, Dickens' London and more.
Italy: Tuscan Culture & Cuisine
Awaken your senses as you experience the sights, sounds and smells of Italy’s Tuscany region. Ancient history, fascinating architecture, traditional Italian cuisine, fine wines, breathtaking panoramic views & inspirational art of the Renaissance era make traveling through Italy an experience to remember.
Japan: Japanese Art & Landscaping
After Chinese Buddhism trickled into Japan during the 6th century, forming a spiritual connection with nature became increasingly important to the Japanese people. Buddhist gardening & landscaping techniques were added to ancient Japanese temple shrines, which played a role in the formation of Shinto-Buddhism. On this 14-day journey through Japan, you’ll learn about the significance of different landscaping techniques & ancient temples as you find your Zen.
Romania: The Life of Dracula
Step into the world of Bram Stroker’s classic horror novel, Dracula, as you travel through the mountains of Transylvania. Learn about Vlad the Impaler, the inspiration behind the bloodthirsty character & step into the Bran Castle where you can see the inspiration for fictional castle.
South Africa: Social Transformation Through Art
Throughout history & across the world, the arts have been a vital tool in shaping responses to social justice issues. South Africa’s distinctive social & political history has led to the development of a unique brand of artistic responses to the challenges it faces. Through various forms of expression – including music, dance, theater, fine art & street art – art has given the voiceless a voice & informed social transformation.
Tanzania: Safari Photography Tour
Get your cameras ready, pack your bags & head into the wild Tanzanian bush. This exciting photography tour features several game drives where you’ll get the opportunity to capture wonders of nature on film. You may even have an opportunity to photograph the Great Migration of wildebeests plunging through the crocodile waters of the Grumeti River.
Vietnam: New Perspectives Through Journalism
During this program, students will learn how perspective informs truth & accuracy. American students will collaborate with their Vietnamese counterparts on journalism assignments that will represent multiple perspectives. The group will find & write stories aimed at helping Americans better understand contemporary Vietnam & its people.
Much of our time in country will then be devoted to understanding the Vietnamese point of view of the “American War” (as it’s known in Vietnam).
