Sample Itineraries
On this 10-day tour, you’ll learn about multiple sects of Buddhism as you explore museums & ancient religious sites that show how age-old beliefs defined Japan’s history & culture. You'll learn how Buddhism trickled into Japan during the early 6th century when Shintoism was the primary religion. And how eventually Buddhism became widely accepted & incorporated into the Shinto way of life. During the 1100s, Zen Buddhism flourished throughout western Japan. Today, there are more than 9 million practicing Zen Buddhists in the country.
Japan: Japanese Art & Landscaping
After Chinese Buddhism trickled into Japan during the 6th century, forming a spiritual connection with nature became increasingly important to the Japanese people. Buddhist gardening & landscaping techniques were added to ancient Japanese temple shrines, which played a role in the formation of Shinto-Buddhism. On this 14-day journey through Japan, you’ll learn about the significance of different landscaping techniques & ancient temples as you find your Zen.
Vietnam: New Perspectives Through Journalism
During this program, students will learn how perspective informs truth & accuracy. American students will collaborate with their Vietnamese counterparts on journalism assignments that will represent multiple perspectives. The group will find & write stories aimed at helping Americans better understand contemporary Vietnam & its people.
